The pheran, out of winter
A garment built for a Kashmiri winter, cut lighter for the rest of the year.
The pheran is a loose gown worn across Kashmir, traditionally over everything else, traditionally in wool heavy enough to sit a kangri beneath.
It was designed around a problem: how to stay warm through a long winter in a house without central heating.
What changes when the problem does
Most people buying a pheran today are not solving that problem. So the weight comes down, the wool blend gets lighter, and the silhouette stays — because the silhouette was never about the cold. It is about ease.
Worn over trousers, a lighter pheran works well beyond winter without becoming a costume.
What we kept
The volume through the body, the drop of the sleeve, and the hand-worked tilla at the neck where it has always been. Change the weight; leave the shape alone.
